When Complex asked me to take part in their “Next Sneaker Design Star” contest, I was hesitant at first. I’m not a graphic designer (by any stretch), and while I think I have a lot of good design ideas, I knew implementing them would be a challenge. So I responded by asking if I could use a designer to help me bring my idea to life, and they obliged. I sent a tweet out asking if anyone would be willing to help me out, and to my surprise…one of my favorite designers in the world responded that he’d be down.
If you don’t know Bryan Espiritu, it’s time to get learned. Not only is he the owner and designer for one of the dopest streetwear labels out there (The Legends League), he also does incredible gallery-ready art work, and he’s worked with heavy hitters like Drake, Livestock and Nike Sportswear. Needless to say, I was EXTREMELY excited to work with Brian, and after bouncing a few ideas around, it was clear that we had a similar vision. We both really love a classic running silhouette, and wanted to translate that into something new and premium, but most of all, wearable.
I can’t even front…Brian deserves pretty much all of the credit for this design. He’s incredible. He took a few ideas, and made them 1000 times better. If our design ends up winning, he’ll be taking the trip to work with Creative Rec in LA.
Long story short…check out our design, and if you like it, throw us a vote. Contest closes tomorrow at noon Eastern, so don’t sleep!
